Center for Rural Virginia
Created by the Virginia General Assembly as a local entity without political status, the Center works in tandem with local efforts and as a partner to the Council for Rural Virginia to provide the objective, non-partisan data that will enable our partners in government and business to make the decisions that will have the greatest, most lasting impact for all Virginians.

Council for Rural Virginia
The Council for Rural Virginia's mission is to improve the quality of life in the Commonwealth's
rural areas by:

  • bringing together the key players in rural development
  • enhancing communication among this group
  • encouraging a collaborative and cooperative partnership to work toward the delivery
    of more effective, efficient service to citizens that live and work in Rural Virginia.
  Insure More Virginians
Virginia State Planning Grant which allows the Commonwealth to gather important information about its uninsured population; solicit stakeholder input about the feasibility of various models and their strategies for increasing health care coverage; and make recommendations to the Governor and the Secretary of Health and Human Resources regarding strategies for reducing the State's uninsured population.
 
 
 
Office of Minority Health and Public Health Policy (OMHPHP)

The mission of the Virginia Department of Health, Office of Minority Health and Public Health Policy (OMHPHP) is to improve access to quality health care for all Virginia residents.OHPP contributes to its mission through  policy analyses and research concerning the cost, quality, and accessibility of health care in the Commonwealth.   OMHPHPassists medically underserved communities and populations with the development of resources, establishment of partnerships, and identification of programs. OMHPHP develops the health care workforce; including the management of scholarship and loan repayment programs and other initiatives aimed at the recruitment and retention of health care providers.
  One Care of Southwest Virginia, Inc.
One Care of Southwest Virginia, Inc. strives to link people to the human and health services they need quickly and easily. The organization is working to implement a new system that will make it easier for the 154,000 citizens of Southwest Virginia who have no insurance or who are underinsured to get the services they need.
 
  Primary Practice Opportunities of Virginia
PPOVA is a comprehensive health care provider resource designed to assist in the recruitment of health care providers throughout Virginia. PPOVA's mission is to increase access to primary health care and improve health care outcomes for Virginia's medically underserved and vulnerable populations.
SeniorNavigator
The SeniorNavigator is Virginia's award-winning program combines the Internet with a network of volunteers to bring over 20,000 health and aging resources - both public and private - to seniors, their families and caregivers.
Virginia Area Health Education Centers (Virginia AHEC)
The mission of the Virginia Statewide Area Health Education Centers Program is to promote health careers and access to primary care for medically underserved populations through community-academic partnerships.
Virginia Association of Free Clinics (VAFC)
The mission of the Virginia Association of Free Clinics (VAFC) is to support and strengthen Free Clinics and advocate for the populations they serve. Free Clinics are private, non-profit, community-based organizations that provide health care at little or no charge to low-income, uninsured and underinsured people through the use of volunteer health professionals and partnerships with other healthcare providers.
Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM)
The mission of VCOM is to prepare osteopathic primary care physicians to serve the rural and medically underserved areas of the Commonwealth of Virginia, North Carolina, and the Appalachian region, and to provide scientific research that will improve the health of all humans
Virginia Commonwealth University HIV/AIDS Center
The Center coordinates many of the HIV/AIDS-related clinical, research, educational and support activities within the university, the greater Richmond area and the commonwealth of Virginia.
Virginia Community Healthcare Association (VACHA)
VACHA works with Virginia's communities to bring primary health care to the neediest areas. A not-for-profit organization, VACHA's mission is to assure that all Virginians, regardless of geographic location or income, have access to appropriate and affordable primary health care.

VACHA also is the statewide association for Virginia's community health centers (CHC's) and similar organizations including nonprofit rural health clinics, community-based providers of primary care, and health departments providing primary care services. A community health center is a not-for-profit corporation located in a medically under served area to provide primary health care to anyone seeking care.
  Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF)
Virginia Health Care Foundation works to improve the lives and health of Virginia's uninsured. Whether helping children obtain health insurance, providing seniors and the chronically ill with medicines they need, or bringing more health professionals to underserved areas, VHCF touches the lives of thousands of Virginians everyday.
Virginia Health Quality Center
The Virginia Health Quality Center (VHQC) is the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for Virginia .  The VHQC partners with health care professionals to improve patient care for the state's more than 900,000 Medicare beneficiaries as well as other target groups.
 
Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association
The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association has 51 member health systems and hospitals, representing 99 community, psychiatric and specialty hospitals throughout Virginia.
 
  Virginia SEARCH
Virginia SEARCH provides health professional students and residents the opportunity to train on interdisciplinary teams and acquire the skills needed to provide culturally competent care that is responsive to the needs of underserved populations.
  The Virginia Center on Aging
The Virginia Center on Aging, located on the Medical College of Virginia Campus of Virginia Commonwealth University, is an interdisciplinary study, research, information and resource facility for the Commonwealth of Virginia utilizing the full capabilities of faculty, staff, libraries, laboratories and clinics for the benefit of older Virginians and the expansion of knowledge pertaining to the aged and to the aging process. It is the only such center in Virginia.

  Office of Rural Health Policy
Department of Health and Human Services
The Office of Rural Health Policy (ORHP) promotes better health care service in rural America. ORHP is charged with informing and advising the Department of Health and Human Services on matters affecting rural hospitals, and health care, co-ordinating activities within the department that relate to rural health care, and maintaining a national information clearinghouse.
   
  National Association for Rural Mental Health (NARMH)
NARMH seeks to develop and enhance rural mental health and substance abuse services and to support mental health providers in rural areas. Now NARMH has added the goal of "Developing and proactively supporting initiatives that will strengthen the voices of rural consumers and their families."
  National Rural Development Partnership
The National Rural Development Partnership acts as a non-partisan forum for identifying, discussing, and acting on issues affecting rural America. The NRDP does not supplant, duplicate, or compete with any program, but rather facilitates coordination and collaboration among its partners to improve implementation of rural programs.
  National Rural Health Association
The National Rural Health Association is a national membership organization whose mission is to improve the health and health care of rural Americans and to provide leadership on rural issues through advocacy, communications, education and research. The NRHA is a nonprofit association headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, with a government affairs office in Washington, D.C.
